New World Van Lines Wins AMSA’s Independent Mover of the Year Award

March 4, 2020

ALEXANDRIA, VA — New World Van Lines Moving & Storage, based in Chicago, Ill., has been named the nation’s top independent moving company for 2019 by the American Moving & Storage Association. The company has earned the Independent Mover of the Year Award for exceptional business growth, strong customer satisfaction and award-winning service.

This award, also known as “the Indy,” reflects the association’s and the industry’s commitment to outstanding performance among independent movers as demonstrated through innovative business methods and practices, community involvement, customer service practices, employee relations, and operations that address a current and compelling social or economic issue. The recipient is selected by a panel of industry experts.

“On behalf of all of our New World colleagues, we are very honored to receive this prestigious recognition for the second time. Our five core values: Safety – Service – People – Innovation – Profits drive every decision we make as a company and the Indy Award endorses our commitment to them,” said David Marx, President of New World Van Lines.

New World’s predecessor, Economy Moving & Transfer Company, was established in 1919. Thirty-four years later, Edward Marx purchased Economy Moving from his father. In 1982, after the moving industry was deregulated, Edward founded New World Van Lines and was granted the authority to operate the company as a 48-state carrier. Edward introduced the innovative “single crew service” using only full-time, uniformed employees, and the exclusive use of company-owned equipment in lieu of owner-operators.

New World takes an active role in corporate citizenship and responsibility, including their ongoing focus on environmental stewardship. Out of 500,000 U.S. trucking companies, they are one of only 3,700 participants in the EPA’s SmartWay Transportation Partnership and the only moving company to receive the SmartWay EPA award four times.

Through donations of time, equipment, facilities and volunteer resources, New World demonstrates a commitment to the communities it serves, supporting active corporate citizenship and employee participation in programs that provide: food, clothing, health and wellness benefits, education, and support for the nation’s armed forces.

“New World Van Lines sets a high bar for excellence in the industry with an outstanding track record of success. They are well-deserving of this honor that recognizes their commitment to top-notch customer service and the communities that they serve,” said John Becker, interim president of the American Moving & Storage Association.
