What is Moving Day on Capitol Hill?

This annual event, a key part of AMSA’s advocacy outreach, is designed to present a united voice for public policy impacting the moving and storage industry. Over 100 AMSA members convene in Washington, D.C., to meet with Members of Congress and administration officials to ensure their business interests are well-presented and protected. The day offers unmatched opportunities to develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, and brings important industry issues to the forefront of their attention. This event also includes AMSA board and committee meetings, networking receptions, and briefings on the latest public policy issues.

Which staff at my organization should attend Moving Day on Capitol Hill?

All staff are welcome. What happens with federal policy can affect all levels of staff at an organization — so we encourage you to send as many of your staff that are able to join us! Attendees typically include presidents, CEOs, and senior and mid-level staff from small, community-based independent movers to the nation’s largest van lines.

When will AMSA announce the key policy issues for Moving Day on
Capitol Hill?

We try to ensure that the policy issues and fact sheets we provide are timely and in line with current activity on Capitol Hill. As a result, we typically do not announce our target issues until about a month before the event.

Who coordinates the meetings with Members of Congress?

AMSA will coordinate the meetings with representatives and senators for all Moving Day on Capitol Hill participants. AMSA will use the address of your place of business to determine the offices where you will be meeting. If you would like to meet with a different representative or senator other than the ones associated with your business address, please contact AMSA staff Katie McMichael at (703) 706-4971.

What do I need to bring to my meetings with Members of Congress?

  • Don’t forget to wear your I Movers pin!
  • Fact sheets and talking points will be distributed during Thursday’s Moving Day on Capitol Hill Briefing & Lunch. Bring those with you so you can reference them in your meetings
