Safest Truck & Van Fleets in the Moving & Storage Industry Honored

February 16, 2018

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) congratulates the 2017 Fleet Safety Award winners for their exceptional record of success as the nation’s safest moving and storage company truck and van fleets. These annual awards recognize overall safety, improvement in safety, and creativity and leadership in safety program design.

This year there are two double winners: JK Moving Services, an independent mover based in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area; and UniGroup, the nation’s largest van line company, operating United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit, based in St. Louis. The 2017 winners are by category:

  • Under 10 Million Miles: JK Moving Services
  • 10-50 Million Miles: Mayflower Transit
  • Over 50 Million Miles: United Van Lines
  • Safety Improvement Award: JK Moving Services

The Mileage Awards are based on annual miles traveled and presented to the interstate carrier in each mileage category that has the best weighted combination of the lowest U.S. Department of Transportation recordable accident rate per million miles of vehicle operation, and the lowest vehicle and driver out-of-service rate. The Safety Improvement Award recognizes a carrier’s successful efforts to reduce the incidence of accidents.

“The American Moving & Storage Association proudly honors these companies for their record of excellence in safe vehicle operations,” said Scott Michael, AMSA president and CEO. “Some of these companies are repeat winners from previous years, which shows their strong commitment to the highest level of safety for their customers and themselves. Their track records inspire the entire moving and storage industry to achieve further success in safe vehicle operations.”
